ice scream for Valentine's day

Running has become my new drug. And it is becoming, thank HEAVENS, (almost) as addictive as sugar ... and (almost) as soothing as my long meditations when I simply dissapear into nowhere...

My Monday consecutive 20 left me with aching legs both yesterday AND today... I still managed however to run a consecutive 20 tonight as well... Feels great. Gets me in a good mood... Especially important right before Valentine's day... Branching onto another subject here but... Valentine's day SUCKS. Year after year... If you're alone on Valentine's day... if I am alone on Valentine's day... It SUCKS.

And so... I run, I read, I write, I pray... I run some more and eat some ice cream at the end of the day... ;)

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaa

Man, oh man oh man oh man... I love LOVE LOVE running... can't say that enough.
It's been two long awful weeks... first my foot, then... other health problems... excuses really... I finnaly hit the treadmill TODAY. Luckily, the new-year resolutionners ARE thinning out... Not much, mind you, but enought that I was able to throw myself on a treadmill within 5 minutes of parking in their general area.

And, surprise surprise... though the run was rather rough at first, and I felt rusty and achy ... and ready to give up and walk... i did not and, lo and behold...i ran for 20 uninterrupted delicious minutes!!!! Pure JOY! That, my friends, is 5 extra minutes than the last time I checked and with a 2 week break!! Of course, how my legs will feel tomorrow is another story, but, quite frankly, I do NOT care! I am just SO excited I ran.

it's been a long time coming

It's been a long time since I blogged...since I ran also. Well, turns out my metatarsals were just fine...it was the ligaments between them that were inflamed...whatever that means. I was prescribed anti inflamatory meds that both cured the pain in my foot and gave me a new one in my stomach!!! So, i took that for 2 whole days before I dropped it and, the pain only came back 2 days ago... Whatever...I am NOT taking that crap again. I'd rather just ..suffer through it I suppose, anyway it's not as bad anymore.

In the meantime, of course, I have not been running and, as a direct result of my mostly vegetative state (sit at work, sit at home) I have three extra pounds on my already generous frame :(

As if that is not enough, I met a man in my Italian class that is a REAL hardcore runner...not like me, 20-odd minutes on a good day, but 1.5 hours outside runs rain, or shine, or ice and snow and -30, for that matter!!! The man is impressive. Short, but impressive. And very sweet too. He offers me advice...main of which is to run OUTSIDE. Advice that I will keep in my pocket till spring cause, really, the cold is enough to keep me from any fresh air run. Add to that snow, ice and wind and you have enough of a reason to prefer 3 extra pounds!!!

Of course, the treadmill is a safe alternative... though the dry air sometimes makes me wish I was made of harder stuff to go for a run outdoors... but, all things in good time.

I foresee my next run... wednesday. After work.

Dear foot, you need to heal by then. COMPLETELY.

Metatarsals in shambles

Well, would you believe it... I am fine when I run but spend a day on my ass and my metatarsals penalize me.

Here's the goods: I simply got off of the toilet, of all places, and I heard a crack in my right foot and felt a bolt of pain so intense I instantly sweated... Managed to go back to my couch... mostly hopping on the other foot and, as Pearl Harbor got in more trouble on TV... I massaged my foot and it got better.

I used it normally after but, this morning, 7:30 ish am I woke up again in excrutiating pain...

Hmmmm... I am no doctor, but I HOPE that since I was walking on it after the fact and that, since the incident was not induced by some intense encounter with a foreign object, that maybe - just maybe - it is not a fracture but simply some... ligament misplacement or maybe even a fragment of my imagination...?

well... I WILL keep you posted.

no run...no fun

What a dissapointment!!!! I went to run yesterday, after a two day absence ... only to find even MORE new year resolutionners...so many this time, that I could not AT ALL have access to a treadmill. There were, for the hour I spent there, about 10-15 people waiting all around the treadmills AND the ellipticals...

I was therefore forced to keep only to my 20 minutes of step... I did manage to go up 87.5 floors apparently for a meager 200 cal.

I am NOT satisfied. Today, however, I have italian... but tomorrow, FRIDAY, I will go again and I hope the new guys will be out partying or getting ready to, so I can RUN.

back on track and UP i step

I had a weird Friday and Saturday... But i did manage to get my running quota :)

Friday, sort of dizzy and tired...could barely stand, let alone run, so i went home. I did manage to go Saturday, but my head got so HOT so quickly...all i could run was 15 minutes :( Other cardio, yes, but run... just 15... Maybe it had to do with my allergy or whatever that was... after lunch, i took a nap only to wake up with burning, red lips that had swollen to twice their size and had the imprint of my teeth in them... i thought i looked kinda hot...unfortunately, they REALLY hurt and rather scared me.

Luckily, today my lips are back to normal and so is my running. I went to get my fix :) And I ran a glorious 22 minutes, speeds and all...plus, and this is a first... i went on the STEP machine. Thanks to a great guy at work who lost a whooping 120 lbs (yes, that was 120 lbs), who ran to loose and still runs (60 min, 4 / week), who now looks like a rock star and strongly encouraged me to hop on the step as well.

Well ...blessed be his days, I discovered a new hobby :) Kidding... nonetheless, I apparently went up 39 storeys in 10 minutes today!!! Which burned a meager 93 calories :( What?!?

All righty...off to bed...my legs do need some rest. As well as my head...

i hate waiting.com

I finally ran.

But I had to earn it with patience. And patience is a currency I don't keep too much of in my pocket... The gym was packed with new year resolutioners - and I mean PACKED. They were all over the place: lining up to buy memberships (still !?!), lining up be the treadmills and, most importantly - and this is what irks me - all over the treadmills!!!

Of course, now that my blood is full of the feel-good hormone that actually getting ON the treadmill produced, I wholeheardtedly applaud all these new year resolutioners. After all, the only difference between them and me is that I take my resolutions 2 months BEFORE the new year! :)

That being said, I loved my run... 21 minutes instead of 23...and I hope these are the magical 2 minutes that will keep yet another migraine away... and I do believe I will make it for I am feeling FINE. So, 15 of these minutes were consecutive and without break at 4.5 mph, followed by another 5 at 4.8 and a whole bunch of short fast intervals at 6.5 and 8.5 mps with different inclines. Apparently short bursts of fast runs whip the heart into shape. As for the incline, it is for killer muscles!

I will now sign off and go put all my muscles to sleep... apparently, I have no insomnia tonight :)
