Metatarsals in shambles

Well, would you believe it... I am fine when I run but spend a day on my ass and my metatarsals penalize me.

Here's the goods: I simply got off of the toilet, of all places, and I heard a crack in my right foot and felt a bolt of pain so intense I instantly sweated... Managed to go back to my couch... mostly hopping on the other foot and, as Pearl Harbor got in more trouble on TV... I massaged my foot and it got better.

I used it normally after but, this morning, 7:30 ish am I woke up again in excrutiating pain...

Hmmmm... I am no doctor, but I HOPE that since I was walking on it after the fact and that, since the incident was not induced by some intense encounter with a foreign object, that maybe - just maybe - it is not a fracture but simply some... ligament misplacement or maybe even a fragment of my imagination...?

well... I WILL keep you posted.

no run...no fun

What a dissapointment!!!! I went to run yesterday, after a two day absence ... only to find even MORE new year resolutionners...so many this time, that I could not AT ALL have access to a treadmill. There were, for the hour I spent there, about 10-15 people waiting all around the treadmills AND the ellipticals...

I was therefore forced to keep only to my 20 minutes of step... I did manage to go up 87.5 floors apparently for a meager 200 cal.

I am NOT satisfied. Today, however, I have italian... but tomorrow, FRIDAY, I will go again and I hope the new guys will be out partying or getting ready to, so I can RUN.

back on track and UP i step

I had a weird Friday and Saturday... But i did manage to get my running quota :)

Friday, sort of dizzy and tired...could barely stand, let alone run, so i went home. I did manage to go Saturday, but my head got so HOT so quickly...all i could run was 15 minutes :( Other cardio, yes, but run... just 15... Maybe it had to do with my allergy or whatever that was... after lunch, i took a nap only to wake up with burning, red lips that had swollen to twice their size and had the imprint of my teeth in them... i thought i looked kinda hot...unfortunately, they REALLY hurt and rather scared me.

Luckily, today my lips are back to normal and so is my running. I went to get my fix :) And I ran a glorious 22 minutes, speeds and all...plus, and this is a first... i went on the STEP machine. Thanks to a great guy at work who lost a whooping 120 lbs (yes, that was 120 lbs), who ran to loose and still runs (60 min, 4 / week), who now looks like a rock star and strongly encouraged me to hop on the step as well.

Well ...blessed be his days, I discovered a new hobby :) Kidding... nonetheless, I apparently went up 39 storeys in 10 minutes today!!! Which burned a meager 93 calories :( What?!?

All righty...off to bed...my legs do need some rest. As well as my head...

i hate waiting.com

I finally ran.

But I had to earn it with patience. And patience is a currency I don't keep too much of in my pocket... The gym was packed with new year resolutioners - and I mean PACKED. They were all over the place: lining up to buy memberships (still !?!), lining up be the treadmills and, most importantly - and this is what irks me - all over the treadmills!!!

Of course, now that my blood is full of the feel-good hormone that actually getting ON the treadmill produced, I wholeheardtedly applaud all these new year resolutioners. After all, the only difference between them and me is that I take my resolutions 2 months BEFORE the new year! :)

That being said, I loved my run... 21 minutes instead of 23...and I hope these are the magical 2 minutes that will keep yet another migraine away... and I do believe I will make it for I am feeling FINE. So, 15 of these minutes were consecutive and without break at 4.5 mph, followed by another 5 at 4.8 and a whole bunch of short fast intervals at 6.5 and 8.5 mps with different inclines. Apparently short bursts of fast runs whip the heart into shape. As for the incline, it is for killer muscles!

I will now sign off and go put all my muscles to sleep... apparently, I have no insomnia tonight :)

the tutored and the running shoes

Before I get to the running shoes, I simply NEED to talk about the tutoring... (I now tutor, thanks to a brilliant friend of mine)

What an experience! I am hooked. The kids are simply amazing! If I understood correctly, they are supposed to be "at-risk youth" ...from disadvantaged backgrounds or whatever... well... maybe it is too soon to talk, since I have only met 4 of them tonight, but they are so sweet, so innocent...
There was this one girl who was sort of just going through the motions without much enthousiasm but by the time we figured things out in chemistry, about fire and different componds that together make salt and water and all kinds of magic she was as excited as I was (cause believe you me, I learnt as much as she did if not more!!!) she actually said she is now excited cause she's starting to understand how it works!! Now really...what is there more rewarding in this world!?! not that I am taking credit for it...but truly it was ...magical :) Certainly beats pushing paper around on my desk all day!!!

AND NOW (drum roll)....the running shoes. Tomorrow, finally, after 3 days of idling...I will finally work them again. My brand new pair of GT-2130 that gave me wings to fly all over that treadmill on their maiden run. So much so, in fact that I self-induced a humongous migraine complete with nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity and all the trimmings... But I just could not stop!!! Well...ok... for my level of "fitness". Whereas I usually manage 8-12 minutes at 4.5 to 6.5 mph... on these GT's I went for 23 minutes at 4.7 to even 8.5 mph!!! Intervals, of course, let's be real...but still...a world of difference :)

So, till tomorrow... I will sit through one more day of paper shifting, petty corrections, fake smiles and yes's ...but then...THEN I will lace up my brand new babies and RUN!

a...first

Well, since I seem to be developping a mild case of early night insomnia...that magically transforms into the deepest, sweetest sleep as morning chases night... I decided to go ahead and create my very first blog... a running blog: RUNNING A...HEAD. Since my head won't stop running and I just started running ...

Idea that first developped from my newfound love of exhibiting my thoughts on the net, or simply put, WRITING... on the net :) All this, thanks to none other than FACEBOOK! Yes...facebook... and YES, you may laugh!

And so, since this is MOSTLY a blog about mostly running...

I also seem to be developing a love affair with running! ha! Who would have thought...well not me certainly, but there you have it: I LOVE RUNNING. And I do believe running loves me.

I am now reading (and by reading I mean pretty much every single word I see on the pages of) Runner's World and Canadian Running. I am still getting used to the lingo: speedwork, tempo, a 26.2... And by getting used to, I mean I am still being confused.

No matter, it is all between me and the treadmill.
